Hello,

I hope everyone is ready for the holidays! I know I am because there is a new block plane under the tree somewhere. bliss

So, I'm building three guitars at one time as my first builds. I know that I probably should not be working on three at a time to get started but I like to try multiple techniques across each and we'll see how well they all turn out. Last night I was cutting the mortise on the three bodies and one of them is offset. I'm using a Robert O'Brien style jig that I built from watching the youtube videos. The first two went great. The last one is offset by about 9/32 to the left of center. See the pic below.

Did I just make some firewood and a nice story or can I compensate when I cut the tenon? I have the registration dowels in the jig but can take them out and slide the neck one way or the other. If I kept the neck footprint wide, like a D shape heel or something, could I slide it over the necessary ~4/32 to make it up?

It should not be hard to shim the bad side and with a strip of wood and re-rout in the correct location. I would do that instead of trying to make a matching neck.

What John said. The neck resetting process includes adding usually mahogany shims and recutting to fit correctly so adding a shim and recutting won't hurt a thing.

Just watch out when you do your heel profile so that it covers the shim.
